We're starting a youth squad — looking for kids who want to try the rope
We've got news we've been waiting on for a while: we're starting a youth squad. Two of our members — Adam Urban and Michal Kánský — have completed their coaching course and hold a tug of war coaching licence. So the kids will be led by people who genuinely know the sport.
Training is every Wednesday from 17:00 on the pitch at the 3rd Primary School in Rakovník. Anyone can come — boys and girls, no previous training and no kit needed. The first session is free with no strings attached; bring sports clothes and we'll lend you the rest.
Why tug of war? It's a team sport where being the biggest or the strongest isn't the point. It's about technique, timing and being able to rely on the people next to you. It costs very little, and the way up is open — this year we had five club members at the European Championship.
For the juniors we're planning a training camp in Belgium next year, plus at least three competitions in Czechia.
We're also collecting children's ice skates in all sizes. In the Titmouse TOW Shoes workshop we turn them into specialised pulling boots for our juniors. If a pair is gathering dust at your place, get in touch.
Contact: 608 296 430, tow.rakovnik.cz@gmail.com or info@towrakovnik.cz. Or just turn up at the pitch on Wednesday.
